The Scottsdale area is located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert which extends from Central Arizona into Northern Mexico. The Scottsdale area is surrounded by mountain ranges which create what we in Scottsdale call the valley of the sun. The four main mountain ranges that circle the Metro Phoenix area are the McDowell Mountains to the northeast, the Superstitions to the east, the Estrella Mountains to the south, and the White Tank mountains to the west. There are 6 lakes within a drive of 1 1/2 hours from Scottsdale available for picnics, boating and fishing.
