Bicycling, jogging, skating and walking

The Metro Phoenix area has over 500 miles of bike paths with more being added every day. 150 miles of Metro bikeways link parks and other points of interest together. The Metro Phoenix area has bicycle racks on all city buses in the event you want to take a one-way ride. For detailed maps click here for Phoenix Parks and Recreation.
The Metro Phoenix area is located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert which extends from Central Arizona into Northern Mexico. The Metro Phoenix area is surrounded by mountain ranges which create what we in Metro Phoenix call the valley of the sun. The four main mountain ranges that circle the Metro Phoenix area are the McDowell Mountains to the northeast, the Superstitions to the east, the Estrella Mountains to the south, and the White Tank mountains to the west.
There are 6 lakes within a drive of 1 1/2 hours from Metro Phoenix available for picnics, boating and fishing. There are, on average, 300 sunny days each year in the Metro Phoenix Area, which gives lots of opportunity for outdoor recreation.
